Reuilly Blanc "Les Pierres Plates," Denis Jamain - 2022

Item # 22738 750mL

A very smoky, aromatic expression of Sauvignon Blanc from vineyards 40 km south of Sancerre. Winemaker Denis Jamain loves the terroir in Reuilly so much that he carries a stone with a shell in it from the region.

Staff Pick Notes

For those of us looking for alternatives to a good Chablis or Sancerre, this Reuilly Blanc from Denis Jamain fits the bill. A gorgeous example of Sauvignon Blanc grown directly on the coveted vein of Kimmeridgian limestone containing multitudes of fossilized seashells, this wine demonstrates the beauty that can be created when you let the soil do the talking. Denis farms his vines Biodynamically and uses native yeasts to create this wine which helps to bring forth the truest flavors of the region. A wonderful contrast from the traditional flinty soils of Sancerre known as Silex, this white exudes citrus elements in addition to the buzzing minerality of the ocean floor. Kermit Lynch says it best when describing this wine: “Try to imagine Sancerre grown at Chablis”. All I have to add is to look at the price and decide for yourself.

Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...
