Half-Bottle of Mercurey Rouge "Le Meix Juillot," Dom. Michel Juillot - 2019

Item # 32745 375mL

A lovely, nuanced ruby color and inviting aromas of summer cherries and raspberry persist in the glass, showing a rounded harmony with balanced acidity. A fine declaration of its terroir and a Pinot that can be enjoyed young, preferably with roast rainbow trout or striped bass over spinach sautée. This old vine Pinot Noir was fully de-stemmed and matured in used oak.

Staff Pick Notes

Half bottles, you ask? I say, "Yes, more please!" What a terrific way to sample wines from new producers or to get familiar with new varietals or regions. Half bottles also age their wine in the bottle faster, so that 5-year 375ml might be drinking more like an 8 or 10-year. Mercurey is an oft-forgotten village in Burgundy, as it does not have the pedigree soils of its neighbors. Nevertheless Michel Juilliot is making excellent terroir-driven wines that are meant for now or to drink in a few years. This pretty wine, made from 35-year-old vines shows notes of tart cherries, rasberries, and a bit of earth on the nose while the palate is balanced and immediate. Have a glass or two tonight!

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
