Idig Riesling Trocken, Christmann - 2022

Item # 12718 750mL

Christmann's top vines of the Idig vineyard are among their best -- they're located in the village of Konigsbacher. This dry Riesling has aromas of passion fruit and peaches with textured minerals which give the right amount of backbone. In the league of German Rieslings that are age-worthy.

Staff Pick Notes

Weingut Christmann's Idig Riesling Trocken is a Grosses Gewächs, so you know that it is going to be something special. These wines represent the finest vineyards, producing many of the greatest dry white wines of Germany. I have always been reticent to embrace the GG designation as it maligns my beloved off-dry Rieslings, but these wines are something truly special even so. As the sole proprietor of the Idig vineyard, this is the only expression of this particular parcel that exists. What we are gifted is an opulent bottle, one that is immensely pleasurable to drink right now, but will also age fantastically for many years to come. Richly textured and perfumed with peach, apricot, honeysuckle, and wet stones, this is a fine pairing for numerous fish and poultry dishes. Smoked eel bitte!

Riesling

Though the trend is now in the other direction, for many years Riesling was known for producing wines with little alcohol and some residual sugar - too sweet for many modern wine drinkers. Though it's now cultivated worldwide, Riesling is nearly synonymous with German wine, and that country's winemakers have lately begun to produce some very exciting dry versions. They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
