Tasting Notes

This is exactly what bubbly should be: fun, friendly, and festive enough for a special occasion. An exceptionally tasty dry French sparkler, the Delacroix bottling will please just about any palate; enjoy it as an apéritif or marvel at how it sets off your most luxurious lobster dish. Many of our customers are buying this wine by the case, and wisely so: we think everyone should have a bottle of bubbly chilling in the fridge at all times, ready to be popped whenever the situation calls for it. Which turns out to be quite often.

Staff Pick Notes

You're looking at this and wondering, "Can an $8 bottle of French bubbly really be any good?" Yes. The Delacroix is awesome. Crisp and dry and fun, this French sparkler is well balanced and great by the case at parties. The Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc provides a great dry yellow apple base, with great acidity and a smooth mouthfeel. This guy is also great in all of your Champagne cocktails. It's versatile, and the perfect price for French 75s, mimosas, or Lillet apéritifs. Top with a cordial like crème de framboise for a great before-dinner drink. Did I mention you can open it with a sword?

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness...

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking...

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly...
