Tasting Notes

Some say Xinomavro is the father of the Pinot Noir grape; others say it's related to Nebbiolo. What is for certain is that this Greek indigenous grape excels in the northern reaches of Macedonia. This example is spicy and crystalline, with black cherry notes. Delicious!

Astor's Glossary of Terms

Xynomavro
Pronounced "ksee NO ma vro", this is one of Greece’s most important red varietals. The primary grape of Naoussa, this grape produces wines of extraordinary depth and complexity. Frequently likened to Nebbiolo, these wines are dark and tannic in their youth, and benefit immensely from ageing. Typical aromas are black olive, cooking spices, earth, and black fruit.
