Ch. du Champs des Treilles "Vin de Passion," Bordeaux Blanc - 2019

Item # 21327 750mL

In 1998, Corinne and Jean-Michel Comme began a venture in the aristocratic regions of Bordeaux, in the outlying Sainte-Foy, becoming one of the region’s first organic properties. Jean-Michel had been working at Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac and purchased five hectares of about sixty-year old vines, buried across the river in fine clay-limestone soils.

Staff Pick Notes

St. Foy is in the eastern portion of Bordeaux actually very close to Bergerac. The Comme family came to this area from Italy over a century ago. The current vignorons Corinne and Jean-Michel Comme converted the 3.2 hectare white grape vineyard to organic then biodyamic farming practice and the results speak for themselves. Its rare to find a wood aged white that I actually like apart from very expensive white Burgundy. Here the combination of large old wooden barrels and extended lees ageing gives this wine a wonderful texture without losing acidity or slipping into being oaky. Citrus fruit and white flowers meld for a classic white bordeaux that I would definitely recommend.

Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Bordeaux

There are (for all intents and purposes) five grape varieties permitted under French wine law for red Bordeaux: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and, very infrequently, Petit Verdot and Malbec. For white Bordeaux, only three varieties are permitted: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillion, and Muscadelle. The exact percentages of each grape variety used in any...
