The Anguera brothers are shaking things up in Montsant. Their pioneering father, the late Josep Anguera, was famous for introducing Syrah to the region years back. Since his passing, however, brothers Joan and Josep Jr. have embraced a return to their Catalonian heritage, scaling back the use of Syrah in favor of the more traditional Grenache and committing themselves fully to the grape’s varietal potential. Altaroses is all raspberries and rose petals on the nose, extraordinarily delicate in one respect, but with surprising body and an enveloping tannic structure. The wines are unfined, unfiltered and gloriously textured. Indigenous yeast fermentation occurs in concrete and aging in used oak, retaining the freshness, complexity and elegant expression of the fruit. A loving companion to light and hearty fare alike!
