Alpilles Rouge, Dom. de Trévallon - 2020

Item # 29381 750mL

Located in a village of Saint Etienne de Grès, near Les Baux de Provence, Domaine de Trévallon produces quality wines that reflect the terroir beautifully. This Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend is delicate and powerful at the same time. Full-bodied, with flavors of rhubarb, black currant, dried spices, and animal, it is excellent now and can easily be enjoyed over the next eight to 10 years.

Staff Pick Notes

Domaine Trevallon is the product of a unique set of circumstances. A family of artists, who were close friends with Picasso and given one of his paintings, sold it to the Rockefellers and used the proceeds to buy the vineyard. Good choice! This wine has been a favorite of mine for many years now. For Bordeaux fans, this will tickle you in all of the right spots for a fraction of the price. The wine is an even blend of Cabernet and Syrah. While the wine is full and powerful, it is not over the top. Beautiful garigue notes on the nose including cassis, savory herbs, and evergreen. This wine has the structure to go for another 10 years but is still very open and expressive right now.

Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...

Bandol, arguably the most significant appellation in Provence, produces spicy, earthy, rich red wines. These tend to be big and well-structured, relying on the Mourvèdre grape for their power. Vines in Bandol are...

Cabernet Sauvignon

The result of an illicit affair a hundred-odd years ago between Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon today enjoys more worldwide popularity than both of its parents combined. It is the principal grape of Bordeaux, and as such has rightly earned its place among the greatest and most long-lived wines of the Old World; of course, it is also the most heralded grape of California, positioning it at the forefront of the New World wine scene as well. Today, Cabernet Sauvignon has a...
