This Nebbiolo is my absolute favorite of our northern Italian reds. Absolutely somber in character, with lots of bold, dark notes, the Licin by Filippo Gallino is a fantastic value, especially when you have that Barolo craving. The wine is super acid-driven, with notes of wilted flowers and grilled cherries, followed by a tobacco finish. The Licin is a perfect pairing for skirt steaks, lamb burgers, and venison stews when deer is in season. If Filippo Gallino's Licin were a person, I imagine that this deep, brooding wine would be the goth girl I knew in high school who showed me Fleetwood Mac.
