Staff Pick Notes

I love a good Merlot and it seems a shame to me that American Merlots don’t get more attention, so I encourage everyone to give them another go, especially this one. The 2019 Merryvale is an occasion to showcase some of the best cool climate terroirs of Napa Valley. The fruit is drawn primarily from the volcanic soils of Coombsville and Carneros in southern Napa where Merlot is at its best: soft, dark, spicy, and fragrant. An expressive nose leaps out of the glass with notes of mocha, spice, blackberries, earth, and flowers. An ample, luxurious mouthfeel and a fresh midpalate offers ultra-approachable acidity and texture. This is a wine for wine lovers that look for complexity and fragrance, a rock-solid, undeniably awesome Merlot that is ready to drink right now but could easily lay down for ten years, only increasing said awesomeness.
