Staff Pick Notes

Owner/CEO, Jeff Nelson, always preferred the cool climate, lower alcohol, earth driven wines of Europe compared to the fruit focused more alcoholic wines from California. The Santa Rita Hills was the perfect place for him to make his wines modeled after the French region of Chablis. But, how can Chablis-like wines be made in area that west of Santa Barbara? Isn't it crazy hot?? The Santa Rita Hills AVA is one of the only places in California where the hills run on a east/west parallel. With the Purisima Hills to the north and the Santa Rosa Hills to the south, fog and cool breezes from the chilly Pacific ocean create a cool meso-climate, helping keep the alcohol on the lower side. Using Neutral oak and forgoing maloactic fermentation, keeps this wine citrusy, fresh and a pleasure to drink.

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
