Manzoni Bianco "Fontanasanta," Foradori - 2020

Item # 32445 1.5L

Have you heard of Manzoni Bianco? The grape is a cross between two well-known grapes: Pinot Bianco and Riesling. The wine offers Pinot Bianco's zesty flavors and Riesling's floral quality. An extended maceration gives the wine lush mouth-feel. Pair this wine with seafood.

Staff Pick Notes

Elisabetta Foradori has elevated the indigenous red grape Teroldego to world-class status, but it's always been her white wines that make me really, really lose my mind. Manzoni Bianco is a crossing of Pinot Bianco and Riesling, and it presents as floral, exotic, fresh, and unique. The juice for Foradori's spends a week macerating on the skins in cement, followed by 12mo in Slovenian acacia wood. It is bottled unfiltered. I find the Manzoni from Fontanasanta has a delicate nuttiness and light cider character to aromas of orange zest, white peach, preserved lemon, and elderflower. It's elegant, with great structure and acidity, and will continue to develop for 2-3 years if you are someone who can avoid drinking this wine immediately with its many, many temptations.

Trentino-Alto Adige

Crossing the historic boundary between Italy and Austria, Trentino-Alto-Adige is in fact comprised of two autonomous regions (Trentino and Alto-Adige). The swath of land was returned to Italy after World War I, and the two regions have been lumped together in the winemaking world ever since. The region is most famous for its...

Situated on the historic boundary between Italy and Austria, the two autonomous regions were returned to Italy after World War I (hence why they are often lumped together). Alto-Adige retains great pride in its Germanic heritage, evidenced by the dual language bottle labels appearing in the region. Alto-Adige is most...
