Viña Cobos "Bramare" Malbec - 2017

Item # 35319 750mL

We have to thank Paul Hobbs of Napa, CA for putting Malbec on the scene when no one knew what it was in the 1990s. This Malbec from the Uco Valley in Mendoza grows at the base of the Andes Mountains and is a sheer pleasure to drink. Lush dark fruit and fresh minerality with cocoa and tobacco notes. Pair with steak chimichurri.

Staff Pick Notes

The Bramare will appeal to wine lovers who enjoy a full bodied, phenolically ripe style that is accessible yet age worthy. Hailing from Val de Uco in Argentina, this grape growing region is high altitude and dry. Cool temperatures at night preserve acidity in the grapes, necessary for balance. Moisture issues allow for the vines to thrive via being challenged to find water and promoting vigorous root growth. Deep roots are instrumental in providing more than just water. Minerals and other nutrients are extracted adding to character and complexity of the wine. Right, so top notch conditions make for a great start. The rest of process is also first rate, yielding a wine of beautiful aromas and soft silky texture. Ripe cherry fruit and barrel spice slight notes of a baked cherry pie come to mind. Simply a brilliant pick for a serious steak

As the grape can be quite difficult to cultivate, it has become far less popular over the years, even in its Bordeaux home. Its South American renaissance has ensured, however, that...
