Tasting Notes

This intense, complex white wine takes its name "Pithos" from the Greek word for the clay amphorae that it is vinified and aged in. Nutty, mineral-laden and full of fleshy white fruit notes, this is an exceptional Sicilian white unlike any other. Made from the Garganega grape, which is known as Grecanico in Sicily.

Staff Pick Notes

Located in the Vittoria region of southeast Sicily, the Azienda Agricola COS was created by three school friends: Giambattista Cilia, Giusto Occhipinti (uncle of famous winemaker Ariana Occhipinti), and Pinuccia Strana. It started as a fun side project, and became a real business when they realized they were making high-quality wine. Pithos is vinified and aged in amphora. The wine is skin-fermented with indigenous yeasts. Great aromas of almond, grapefruit, orange, green tea, and flowers. A complex white made from the Grecanico grape, otherwise known as Garganega.
