Here it is! A beaut of a rosé, from the Canary Islands no less. Now there's a lot of buzz about drinking wines from crazy far-flung places, but you should drink this because, first and foremost, it's delicious. This rosé, made of local red grape Listán Negro, is from the Island of Lanzarote, the island closest to the North African coast. Petrified lava from a volcanic eruption in the 1730s covers most of the island, so to cultivate wine, a 10-foot hole must be dug through the lava into the soil below. This also gives the vines protection from the very significant winds. What comes out is a wine that is clear and clean, with strong minerality and crisp acidity. The fruit is light, but fresh and ripe with notes of young berries and green guava.
