Chénas "Les Deschamps", Yohan Lardy - 2022

Item # 37838 750mL

If you subscribe to the notion that the wine matches the winemaker, Yohan’s energy and unguarded good humor will come as no surprise once you’ve tasted his wines. There is tremendous concentration and purity of fruit in the wines as well as great mineral structure.

Staff Pick Notes

While Beaujolais doesn't have the cache that its neighbor Burgundy does, here’s a reminder that Cru Beaujolais is nothing to dismiss. Yohan Lardy is a fifth generation artisanal winemaker who works organically to create true-to-terroir wines. Working with .22 hectares of 75 year old vines rooted in granite, quartz, and manganese soils, Yohan hand harvests whole clusters of grapes and takes them through a long, cold semi-carbonic maceration. He follows this up by aging in neutral oak barrels and on fine lees to maintain the honesty of the fruit and land, along with his ideology that beautiful grapes make beautiful wine. Concentrations of dark red fruit, oozing milk chocolate and defined mineral structure swell like waves during high tide and wash upon the senses with tremendous depth and length.

Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
