Staff Pick Notes

Want to be the hippest (hipsterist?) wine connoisseur at your next party? All signs point to Jura. This region between Burgundy & Switzerland is home to lesser known grapes like Poulsard (Ploussard), Trousseau & the region's main variety, Savagnin. Savagnin is famous for Vin Jaune, a wine that ages "sous voile," under a veil of yeast, similar to Sherry but with more oxygen exposure, turning the wine a yellow-golden hue. This method is not limited to Vin Jaune & many bottles labeled Savagnin will also have this oxidative, nutty quality. Wines that are ouillé (topped up), like the Cuvée Romane, come across as much fresher, brighter & fruit forward. This wine is pineapple, fruit cocktail, tangerine, baked apple, yellow flowers, cinnamon and clove. It is rich, textured, & will knock the ironic mustaches right off your dinner guests' faces.
