Cheverny Rouge "Le Clos des Carteries," Venier - 2020

Item # 38833 750mL

A beautiful wine made from 100% Gamay. Bright, happy red fruit greets the nose and washes over the palate. A joy to drink, especially lightly chilled alongside cured meats and sharp cheeses.

Staff Pick Notes

Christian Venier has been a champion of natural wine making even before he enrolled in viticulture school in the mid 1990's. He tends his Cheverny vineyards with revered, organic methods and boundless enthusiasm. He's been a strong influence for the movement as a whole, initially on a local level, now the world over. The grapes that go into the Clos des Carteries are hand selected from a small parcel of the eponymous vineyard, consisting of 80% Gamay and 20% Pinot Noir. Venier. Results are wonderful: A silky palette-coater with an enduring finish of blackberry, raspberry, and cassis, perfectly integrated with mineral notes attributed to the sandy, clay based soils of Carteries. This wine is a real guzzler - perfect on its own for a night at home or for breaking out out a soft cheese plate with guests.

Out of his 7 brothers, he was the one to look lovingly towards the vines and nodded, 'yes..I will take charge.'...

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
