No need to be scared by the name or ABV of this storied drink. In fact, absinthe's all-too-pleasurable flavor contributed to it becoming contraband in 1915! (Ok, there might have been public heath concerns as well.) Europe fell hard for the green muse in the late 1700s, and now Americans are finding ways to put it in cocktails. Originally it was drunk on its own, i.e. diluted simply with cold water. La Muse Verte is a carefully constructed absinthe worthy of a place on your bar. Each herb, like herbsaint, star anise, and lemon balm from this recipe, are separately steeped in spirit hours after being picked. Final assemblage of this viscous green elixir is really just the beginning.
