Laurent Cazotte is an extraordinary artisan who is dedicated to preserving very rare, nearly extinct fruits and grape varieties indigenous to the South West of France. Folle Noire is a natural crossing of Folle Blanche and Malbec. Reminiscent of Pinot Noir, with the depth of gentle sweetness and savory herbs, this liqueur is quick to satisfy. Pale rust and burnt orange in color, the aromas are a mesh of fruit preserves and forest scents. The palate is graceful and potent in the way a great dessert wine is, with ample acidity to lead you on to the finish and into the next sip.

Staff Pick Notes

This is my second Laurent Cazotte Staff Pick and I need to be cautious, otherwise, I'd pick all of his products. They are that good. What the heck is Folle Noire anyway? It is a grape variety whose parents are Folle Blanche and Malbec. Cazotte has taken this obscure variety and made a world class liqueur. Meticulously hand made and varying yields from year to year make this gem harder to find, but WOW! It smells like a Christmas spice cake and the palate shows graceful red fruit, baking spice and a savory touch. This is special stuff, folks...sip and savor.
