Volnay 1er Cru "Les Fremiets", Joseph Voillot - 2021

Item # 14773 750mL

This Volnay is showing marvelously right now with aromas of warm spices, red currants and a lively mineral aspect on the finish. The Les Fremiets vineyard site is 7.4 hectares in size and the Voillot family has a .07 ha parcel. The soil is more limestone-based mixed with lighter stones giving a more feminine aspect to the wine meaning you'll find sheer elegance.

Staff Pick Notes

Someone once told me, “wine is a picture taken from a moving train.” I can think of no better way to succinctly explain why you should try more Burgundies. Each bottle is the snapshot of a place and Pinot Noir is an excellent conduit of terroir. Volnay is known for spinning a silken wine. The juice from Les Fremiets has powerful, earthy aromas of horseradish, white pepper, and celery salt. The palate bursts forward with crushed red fruit and transitions to a peppery finish. Wine is inherently fleeting -- just like life -- so get swept up in it.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
