Givry 1er Cru, Dom. de Clos Salomon - 2018

Item # 23865 1.5L

There is an intense purity to this wine. Aromas of dark cherry, black peppercorn, dusty minerals and lively fresh herbs that are reminiscent of a forest floor. The color is deep, flavors complex and the experience is unforgettable. The Givry village is located further south in the region of Burgundy in the sub-region of the Côte Chalonnaise.

Staff Pick Notes

Clos denotes a vineyard surrounded by a wall and this Clos Salomon has been a monopole for over 700 years and in the same family for 300 years. If this was in the Côte de Nuits this would be $100+ bottle of wine. Since this is from Côte Chalonnaise it's much more affordable and therefore a great value. Côte Chalonnaise is further south and shares some of that region's terroir. Fifty-year-old vines from the seven-hectare vineyard, organic practices in the field and traditional winemaking in the cellar. Dark red in the glass, this young wine is ready to drink now and is delicious. What struck me so strongly about this wine was a remarkable purity, freshness, and brightness of fruit. That fruit is married beautifully to earthy mineral firm palate. All the flavors are balanced and well integrated to make an outstanding bottle of Pinot Noir.

Glossary

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Here one finds renditions of Pinot Noir that deliver power with finesse and grace, wines that have unimaginable depth of flavor, yet are perfectly balanced and ephemeral in the mouth - in short, wines that deliver all that Pinot Noir has to offer. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
