Tasting Notes

Laurence and Rémi Dufaître are a young couple who, in 2001, created a winery in Saint-Etienne-des-Ouillières named Domaine de Botheland. They work closely with Jean Foillard and Jean Claude Lapalu as they've recognized the potential behind this estate. This vintage of Brouilly is marvelous and showing everything you expect and more from such a fine growing season.

Staff Pick Notes

Of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais, Brouilly is the southernmost, but it is located right in the middle of the larger Beaujolais appellation. In 2001, Rémi and his wife Laurence established their winery (Domaine de Botheland) in Saint -Etienne-des-Ouilliere, but it was only after 10 years of selling their grapes to the local co-op that they decided to make their own wine. It was a great decision. Today they cultivate 10 hectares of vines, mostly Gamay grapes with a little bit of Chardonnay. Light red fruit on the nose reminds you how beautiful Beaujolais can be. Pleasant and easy to drink, this is a party wine that both experts and amateurs will enjoy. It feels clean on the palate with good balance and earthiness. "A savourer sans modération!"

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness...

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is the classic expression of the Gamay grape. These red wines (labeled simply “Beaujolais”) are approachable, grapey, and fun – ideal for low-pressure sipping. Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine...
