Our Barale Chinato is currently the best value available in the U.S. for this classic drink. Falling somewhere in between a vermouth and an amari, this style of chinato from Piemonte uses Barolo, the king of Italian wine, as its base. Once the wine has been made and aged, quinine is added along with traditional herbs, botanicals, and spices such as star anise, citrus, cardamom, and more. Excellent as an after dinner digestive as well as in cocktails and especially paired with chocolates.

No wonder it's sometimes called the eternal nectar! Founded in 1870, the Barale estate is now run by Sergio Barale. Among traditional wines, he claims his own secret herbal recipe for Chinato. Made from a base of Nebbiolo, with slight astringency from a dose of quinine, the Barale Chinato strikes a wonderful balance between bitter, herbal, and exotic spicy notes.
