The state of New South Wales is bounded on the east by the Tasmanian Sea. Its most famous wine region is the Hunter Valley. With its exceptionally hot climate, high humidity, ample rainfall and rich soils, one would not expect this to be a source of fine red wine - but these Shirazes defy the elements. Perhaps the original iconic Aussie Shiraz, wine from Hunter Valley is returning to its historical position at the top of the Shiraz hierarchy. Unique in Australia with intense notes of earth, leather, tar, and sweaty saddle, these wines combine an opulence of fruit with ample ripe tannins, allowing them to age and evolve into some of the finest mature Shirazes made.
