Wine History in Georgia

It’s heartening to know that the birthplace of wine is still at it. Georgia is nestled between the Caucasus mountain range and the Black Sea. It boasts the oldest winemaking history in the world. Where else is it possible to find centuries-old vinifera vines? What’s most admirable is their continued tradition of fermenting wines in qvevri, their clay-based amphorae that are buried in the earth. Anthocyanin-rich red wines are made from the local Saperavi grape and long-macerated white grapes turn out delectable orange wines.
