Sancerre Monts Damnés "Cuvée Buster", Thomas-Labaille - 2022

Item # 00080 750mL

Labaille's "Cuvée Buster" comes from specially selected old vines grown on one of the great hillside vineyards of Chavignol: Mont Damnés. This is a pure Sauvignon Blanc graced with deep minerality and intense citrus concentration. Absolutely a stellar selection for the region's famous Crotin de Chavignol goat cheese or a snapper drizzled in a lemon-herb sauce.

Staff Pick Notes

"Les Monts Damnes," the greatest vineyard in Sancerre, is so steep that vineyard workers traditionally slide down the mountain on cushions rather than risking it by foot! This steepness, however, has its rewards, and tasting Labaille's 'Cuvee Buster' is a testament to the fact that this vineyard, however difficult to work, is absolutely worth the struggle. The wine is quite an elegant expression of Sauvignon Blanc, shimmering with bright flavors of grapefruit, green peppercorn, and green apple. Try this today or throw it in the cellar. This one has some serious aging potential.

Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...
