Tasting Notes

From the high elevation Barsotti Vineyard, comes this fresh and joyful Gamay. Beaujolais fans rejoice, it's just as quaffable as you imagine. Lithe red fruit and violet notes taste even fresher when served with a slight chill. Edmonds St. John is part of a new wave of California winemakers focusing on purity of fruit and excellent terroir over high alcohol, overextraction and judicious oak aging.

Staff Pick Notes

Lovers of Beaujolais and wino's alike you have stumbled apon your match. This glorious Gamay from Edmunds St. John is full of pure joy and will slap a flirtatious smile right on your face. These grapes are grown in a granite based soil that is a similar to the granite lime stony soil of Beaujolais. Giving this wine an enormous depth in earthy & fruity qualities. The burning amber color of an autumn sun rise in the glass, translucent and light. With notes of freshly picked strawberry, plum and raspberry sorbet. This wine is like magic in a glass and would be a delight to any Gamay lover!

Astor's Glossary of Terms

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
