Staff Pick Notes

Lieb winemaker Russell Hearn is part of Long Island’s Wine DNA. Australian born, he started his career in Western Australia and has taken his training with him throughout his journey working in New Zealand, France, and regions across the US. One of Long Island's pioneer wine veterans, Russell has made extensive contributions to the New York wine industry over his past three decades working in the region with his wines garnering extensive critical acclaim and industry wide respect. Aged for 10 months in Hungarian oak barrels, the Lieb 2020 Merlot shows a deep garnet color and an enticing nose of mulberry, pine, and cocoa powder. The palate is rich with plum, black cherry and cedar that comes through a smooth, supple mouth-feel, finished with soft, round tannins. While delicious to drink now, it will age well for many years to come.

It has one of the most impressive and distinctive textures of any wine, and has long been prized for the "softening" effect it can have on Cabernet Sauvignon - especially...
