Fernet is a very polarizing liquor, but one I hold close to heart with a flavor as bold as its history! The base to Argentina's most popular drink, the fernandito, or the Fernet and coke, and so important that a distillery was required in Buenos Aires to keep up with production. Aloe Ferox takes the lead with a gripping bitterness, but Saffron plays a big role as one of the other 27 herbs, roots, and spices in this Amaro. Fernet Branca actually accounted for buying as much as 70% of the worlds saffron at times in their past to maintain availability. With a recipe kept within the family for 6 generations there is always more to learn about this wonderful amaro!
