Produttori di Carema is a small cooperative based in Piedmont at the border with Valle d'Aosta. Seventy one growers are part of this cooperative and each one of them owns a very small part of the land. The vines are planted in high altitude with a lot of exposure to the sun. These factors contributes to the balance of this wine: the acidity in the grapes is leveled down by the heat of the sun. The four years aging in chestnut barrels helps giving even more structure to this wine. Like a typical Nebbiolo, this wine has strong floral notes, especially violet. In the palate you can taste red fruit, orange peel followed by smooth hearty and leathery notes. It is a complex wine but not overwhelming, with a lovely finish. A great drinkable example of Nebbiolo!
