Hermann Wiemer moved to New York from Germany's Mosel region in 1968. This Finger Lakes Riesling, made in the traditional German Spätlese style, clearly shows his roots. Notes of baked apples and tangerine fill the palate.
There is a reason that the Hermann J. Wiemer Semi-Dry Riesling has been staff picked multiple times over the years, its a stellar bottle of wine. The Wiemer family has been making wine in the village of Bernkastel in the Mosel region of Germany for over 300 years. Founded in 1979, Hermann started making wine on the western slopes of Seneca Lake in the New York Finger Lakes region. The cool climate, gravelly soils and moderating influence of water were similar to his families vines in Mosel. This wine shows rich tropical fruit notes of ripe mango, pineapple and papaya while the lime like zestiness balances out the touch of sweetness. A perfect pairing with Pad Thai and chicken satay, while the balanced sweetness can handle spicier southeast Asian dishes. A delicious Riesling for under twenty bucks.
