Vintage port is the most prestigious member of the port family and the Douro's flagship style is produced only from a single vineyard in an exceptional year using the best grapes. Porto Ferreira is the only great Port house to have remained in Portuguese ownership throughout its history. The 2011 Ferreira is a rich blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Sousao aged in oak vats before bottling. Powerful, bold, dark, opaque color. Welcoming aromas of melted dark chocolate, baked black cherries, and incense will seduce you before your palate enjoys the medium-sweet, velvety texture of distinct tannins in a harmonious balanced acidity. Then there's an intense blast of raisin, tobacco, black, white, and even Szechuan pepper towards the finish. I love it with meat, and hard, mature cheeses. Saúde!
