Tasting Notes
From the ancient Greek Fiano varietal planted on volcanic soils, comes this distinctive flinty white with an atypical, yet beautifully blended spice and voluptuous texture reminiscent of white Burgundy. Ciro Picariello has quickly become one of the star producers of Fiano di Avellino. He and his wife started their winery in 1997 but their first vintage under their own label was not until 2004. Their 7 hectares of vineyards are located at relatively high elevation in the province of Campania.

Staff Pick Notes
You could argue this wine is having a bit of an identity crisis... A Greek grape, grown and made in Italy, and sometimes compared to white Burgundy. Though, all rolled together it results in a delicious wine. It's medium-bodied though it's fully and richly flavored with pear and yellow apple, melon, honeyed spices, a bit of flint, and a touch of nuttiness. This wine is organically grown on volcanic soils and vinified by Ciro Picariello who practices hands-off wine- making to let the purity of fruit shine through; a perfect approach for a grape that has a lot to say. Great on its own, or try it with orange glazed chicken with vegetables.

- The wine’s great acidity balances out tartness in the tomato sauce

He is one of the country’s quintessentially traditional winemakers. He is straightforward about his approach, immune to the praise lavished upon him in the media, and not one to obsess about crafting a so-called “perfect”...
