Staff Pick Notes

This wine comes to Astor from about as far as any we carry: South of Perth, Australia. We are fortunate to have it. The 250-acre estate was founded in 1971 and is perfectly placed in an area that has early rain followed by late summer sea breezes. The grapes are picked ripe, fermented, and then aged in French oak barrels. There is a cedar nose and dark berry flavors with a hint of chocolate on the finish, making it a favorite for barbecued meat in the summer and short ribs anytime. The body is medium and not overpowering. You should find this to be a great house red, which you can drink all year round.

Today, Cabernet Sauvignon has a...

With fairly consistent year-round temperatures and moderate rainfall, the climate is well suited to the Bordeaux grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The soil here tends to be gravelly or gritty loam, offering excellent drainage, though poor water retention means that frequent irrigation may be required. The Shiraz form Margaret River faithfully reflects its microclimate, yielding medium-bodied, spicy, peppery...
