Gelber Muskateller "Vom Opok," Muster - 2020

Item # 26629 750mL

The nature of Gelber Muskateller, Yellow Muscat, is all about the aromatics. What we have here is classic with aromatics but heavily influenced by a raw, nearly lactic character that comes from the natural winemaking.

Staff Pick Notes

Schmecke das Leben (Taste the Life) is a society of five winemakers who share the goal of making Styria a world capital of natural wine. At the front of this pack are Maria and Sepp Muster. Their estate is in Leutschach, which has south exposure, a high elevation of 1250-1900 ft, and treacherously steep slopes. Opok is what the locals call their soil, which is a mixture of limestone, silt, and clay. It breeds concentration, acidity, and soul in wine. Gelber Muskateller is German for the same Moscato that makes Asti’s sweet sparkler. It has seen a renaissance in Austria where vignerons are using it to make exciting still, dry wines. The Musters’ rendition bears strikingly profound aromas of lychee, citrus, and white flowers. The palate shows straw, herbs, and tropical fruit. Just a lovely way to start a meal with appetizers.
