If I were stuck on a desert island and had to drink only one kind of wine, without question it would be Champagne. Endlessly fascinating in its range of expression, bubbles rarely disappoint. In a recent lineup of vintage Champagnes, one bottle that stood out was this 2006 from Henriet-Bazin. They've been making Champagne since 1890 in the Montagne de Reims. This 100% Chardonnay, blanc de blancs, was incredibly enticing from the start, with aromas of honeyed almonds. The richness follows through to the palate with yeasty, ripe lemon zest, almonds, a puff of rice cracker, and chalky minerality. A beautiful sparkler for the table or a desert island.
