Staff Pick Notes

One of the leading organic wine-makers in Croatia today, Ivan Enjingi draws upon one hundred and twenty years of family winemaking history to produce this knock-out of a Welschriesling. Known as Grasevina in Croatia, Welschriesling’s closest grape relative is Germany’s Elbling (we have some of those, too!) not Riesling as the name might suggest. Having said that, though, your first reaction, like mine, might be ‘This is like really good Riesling’ because of the wonderful aromatics and luxurious mouthfeel the wine effortlessly offers up. Macerated on the skins for three days, a bouquet of aromas greets us with honeysuckle, jasmine, and autumn fruits. Caramel apple, ripe pear, and snappy minerality entice and refresh the palate. Had a great time with left-over Chinese food and a butterscotch pudding in the garden.
