This is true old-vine Zin! I was surprised to learn that the Peirano Estate in Lodi has been around for quite some time — Giacomo Peirano founded the estate in 1879 with imported Zinfandel cuttings from his family's vineyards near Genoa. Today, fourth-generation Lance Randolph produces this beautiful, easy-drinking Zinfandel. The price lends itself to weeknight drinking but the first sip reveals a serious and complex wine. It's medium-bodied with aromas and flavors of strawberries, rhubarb, vanilla, toast, cocoa, black cherries, and spice.
