Tasting Notes

The Furmint grape variety does not yet enjoy an international reputation, but Royal Tokaji feels it deserves one. The majority of the grapes were harvested in the commune of Mád with a very small proportion from Royal Tokaji’s Mézes Mály vineyard in the neighboring commune of Tarcal. Fermentation: 60% fermented and aged in barrel (new, second- and third-year Hungarian oak), 40% fermented and aged in stainless steel.

Staff Pick Notes

Fans of mineral whites: gather around! You're about to hear about a grape that you may already know or will know well in the future, Furmit. Typically you'll find it vinified as a sweet dessert wine (Tokaji), more fashionable among European royalty 300 years ago than today. Along with Assyrtiko of Greece and Godello of Spain, I think Furmit from Hungary is on a notable, noble upswing. Full of minerals and a taste of lime leaf. There's so much going on in this bottle, let it impress you.
