Staff Pick Notes

Is there anything finer on a chilly autumn night than a post-prandial glass of port? And while I adore a good vintage or ruby port, tawnies hold a special charm for me. Kopke is Portugal's oldest wine export company (founded in 1683) and has earned a reputation as one of the finest producers of Colheitas (aka vintage tawnies). By every account 2004 was extraordinary, complete with a final flourish of sunshine just before harvest to give the grapes that perfect ripeness. Kopke aged this tawny ten years in wood before bottling in 2014. It's lighter in color than a ruby but has a hint of ruby hue. On the palate you'll find dried cherries, figs, and sultanas with caramel and roasted pecans. This is perfect with a cheese plate or all on its own as liquid dessert.
