I’m a romantic but I’ve never been seduced by flowery winemaking stories. If the wine is really that good it doesn’t need a vignette to be poured in my glass. Though today many wines are slung at me strewn with lofty tales. This Kabinett from Dönnhoff while quiet does seem to bend my ear (and more importantly my elbow). Rich citrus flavors, savory spices, and a layered texture that is aching to be molded by a few years of time. The wine quivers with energy and begs a certain understanding. Wines don’t need a song and dance. Let them speak for themselves.
