Half-Bottle of Rochelt Black Elderberry Eau de Vie - 2005

Item # 35992 375mL

Easily one of the rarest spirits to grace our shelves this one of a kind eau de vie is a house specialty at Rochelt, a labor of love that takes tremendous effort to create. This highly prized fruit is cultivated completely naturally without the use of pesticides in lower Austria and every berry used must be deemed perfectly ripe before being picked. Prized for its high vitamin content and intensely complex range of flavor, the fruit is commonly made into fresh juice, syrups, teas and jellies. Brandy is much more rare and it takes an astounding 120 pounds of fruit to make one liter of eau de vie! This batch was distilled before resting unblended in open air glass demi-johns for thirteen years. Notes include roasted fruits, rich black teas, coffee beans, dried prunes, cacao fruit, cloves and a wild sanguine deep forest core. A mind blowing drink.

Staff Pick Notes

It's difficult to compare the level of focus and uncompromising quality of this distillery to any other. Consider that 120 pounds of the best fruit go into every bottle. Exacting distillation and aging in demi-johns with a cloth covering take this to a whole new level of expressiveness over a thirteen-year period. Simply the most precious liquid around.
