Bourgueil "Notre Histoire," Dom. de l'Oubliée - 2018

Item # 36599 750mL

A great example of the wild side of Cabernet Franc. Rustic black friut notes with loads of pepper, earthiness and barnyard notes. Made from old vines and aged in old casks for a year. A great wine for adventurous palates; it is best enjoyed alongside hearty meals. The cuvée is named after the film from Bertand Blier, the famed French director whom the winemaker happens to be obsessed with.

Staff Pick Notes

Don’t you ever get tired of playing it safe? Need a break from dainty wines? Me too! Lately, I’ve been looking for wine that will yank me by the arm. Cabernet Franc has never been a bashful grape, but this one openly flaunts its features. To go any further would be to rip its shirt. A charming aroma of smoking hay, shredded ginger, and handfuls of shrub fruit. The palate is rich with currants, horseradish, and dark raspberries. The ripe tannins and frank acidity make for a mouthwatering sip. Turn off your Vivino app, leave your reservations behind, and cook something daring like Cassoulet! Pull the cork and plunge into this wine. Don’t worry, your favorite bottles will still be there when you surface.

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. Cabernet Franc has remained close to its roots in France, enjoying small pockets of popularity primarily in the Loire Valley (specifically in Chinon), where it is often bottled as a varietal wine, and in Bordeaux where it is still used in moderate percentages in the typical blends. In fact,...
