"Dentelle" Blanc de Noirs Brut, Franck Besson - NV

Item # 37830 750mL

A sparkling wine white in color though made from 100% Gamay that comes from the Beaujolais region. 40-year-old vines are planted in a bedrock of granite. The fruit aromas are incredibly aromatic and driven by an array of mixed red berries. Dry yet giving. Quite a charming wine made in the traditional method.

Staff Pick Notes

"Blanc de noirs" is a white wine made from dark grapes, and while we're translating, it's worth mentioning that "dentelle" is French for lace... although I'm not sure how that word should apply to the this sparkler. It's perhaps lace-like with regards to intricacy, but don't pick this up expecting anything delicate or subtle. Instead you can expect to welcome a full bodied and dense drink with rich fruity flavors, this is a really cool wine to break out with food! Being made from gamay, it's fun to pair with all of the classic things that go with light reds: mushroom omelette, hard cheese, perhaps a side of salmon. Those scenarios are all in my imagination, however, as I drank this by itself and was totally satisfied.

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is the classic expression of the Gamay grape. These red wines (labeled simply “Beaujolais”) are approachable, grapey, and fun – ideal for low-pressure sipping. Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
