Aglianico "Donnaluna, De Conciliis - 2018

Item # 37839 750mL

The De Conciliis Estate is located in the beautiful Paestum region of Campania. Until a few years ago, a few large producers dominated the market for Campania wine. De Conciliis is part of the wave of small producers making wines of superior quality. Fermented in steel then followed by one year of aging in large barrels. The resulting wine is lush, overtly fruited on the palate yet with a good backbone of structure.

Staff Pick Notes

This beautiful Aglianico blend (the remaining 10% being Primitivo) comes from a half dozen or so estate vineyards from the Cilento region of Campania. The wine spends just less than a month fermenting in stainless steel tanks, later seeing a two week maceration process. It then spends more quality time in the stainless steel tanks, going on to three months of bottle aging before hitting the wine shelf. The result is a robust yet silky sipper with loads of blackberry and toasty grape. Although a little too medium bodied to serve with much of a chill, I was certainly tempted to do so when I pulled the cork one of these bottles the other night. Perfect on it's own, but a wonderful addition to any saucy pasta dish or hard cheese platter. Pizza wine at its most elegant.
