Staff Pick Notes

Kozlovic is a well known winery in the Istria region of northern Croatia. Inland from the Adriatic sea, the vineyards are planted in clay soil at 240 mt altitude with a noticeably cooler climate than Dalmatia. This inky wine made from indigenous Teran has seductive "woodsy" aromas--forest floor, teak, potting soil--combined with intoxicating coffee grinds and cloves. The scents draw you into the deep garnet color in the glass. On the palate you'll get rich, savory dark chocolate and tart winter berries with firm tannic structure and a lingering bitter earth finish. Ideal with cured meats and aged, savory cheeses. A hearty wine to warm up dark evenings.
