This is not your average Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. The wine spends over 40 days fermenting on the grape skins which gives it a golden color, cidery flavors and hint of tannin. Technically, it's an orange wine but a more moderate style than some of the more extreme ones that are made. It is bone dry with notes of cider, lemons and a salty minerality. Bottled with a touch of sulfur to keep it stable.

The other day I asked myself the question 'who really drinks Sauvignon Blanc anymore?' With the booming wine culture we have so many other styles to try on for size. Grapes I can't (but will try) to pronounce from all over the world are not only available but thriving in the US market. But there is something about Sauvignon Blanc that I find comforting. For SB was the grape that got me in to the wine game in the first place. New Zealand has become synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc. But The SB from The Hermit Ram is unlike any NZ wine I’ve ever tasted. With one-month skin contact you get the rustic fruitiness with out being smothered by the Chiquita Banana lady’s hat. Lemon juice and blue stones. Give the Hermit Ram a try. It may give Sauvignon Blanc the resurrection it/you need.
