Dautel, Estate Weissburgunder - 2019

Item # 39123 750mL

We find very few wines from the Württemberg region. This is a rural, hilly countryside with vineyards and orchards scattered amidst forests and fields. This is light on its feet but very giving on the palate. Quite an ideal Weissburgunder (aka Pinot Blanc) worth your while.

Staff Pick Notes

We recently had the good fortune to have the famous wine importer/author Terry Thiese pour some of his wines for us. His opinion of a wine, he said, was based not on the first sip but the last. You need to sit with a wine, drink it through the evening, have it with dinner. In short, spend time with it. One of the surprises was this Weissburgunder (pinot blanc), from the father and son team, Ernst and Christian Dautel. Although the family has been making wine for 500 years, wines from the Wurttemberg region had rarely made it onto the world market, until recently. The grapes are grown on steep terraces, producing a wine unlike any other pinot blanc. It's fragrant with a flinty citrusy nose, while on the palate you'll find herbal and mineral notes. It's expressive and intense while remaining light, a wine you'll love spending time with.
