Eminence Road "Elizabeth's Vineyard" Sparkling Gewurztraminer - 2020

Item # 39406 750mL

A sparkling Pet Nat style Gewurztraminer from the Catskills area of NY. Wild and aromatic, with notes of cider, citrus and earthiness. The wine was fermented and racked off its lees and bottled without fining or filtering. You will see sediment at the bottom of the bottle. A secondary fermentation took place in the bottle. A delicious aperitif wine.

Staff Pick Notes

Eminence Road is the most exciting New York winery, and this sparkling, lightly orange Gewurztraminer is why. Tremendously aromatic, spicy, wild, with some light waxiness alongside very pretty aromas of rosewater, lychee, and pineapple. At Eminence Road, all of the white wines undergo a 2 or 3 day maceration, and the juice is allowed to oxidize lightly before fermentation. Foot stomping and an absolute minimum of sulfur are the norm. They've made a small amount of Gewurz for a few years, but this is the first time we've been able to get some made in the delightful pet nat style. Equally amazing with Persian food, pork and latkes in applesauce, and garlic heavy chicken broccoli. It's low alcohol too (10.7%) so don't feel TOO bad once you discover that you've polished off a whole bottle by yourself.

The variety is cultivated all over the world, but the best examples tend to come from Alsace: these are full-bodied wines with a golden color. The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...
